Better speakers is not a bad alternative though.

Tuesday: I've been away for two weeks and drove it home the 180kms from Perth Airport.

Wednesday:I washed it as it was filthy from being out in the elements. Spring has been wet, windy and muddy here so it was well in need of a good clean. Then I went and picked up my boat from the signwriters shop. The boat got new decals to colour match the car. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Well that's two days of this week.

Giles

Replaced the Windscreen/Headlight washer pump. What an easy job that is . I think this part of the car was designed by an engineer that did not think about pump failure. I noted that in the Workshop manual it says to remove the front bumper, in hind sight this may have been an easier option, as trying to put the hoses back on the new pump was extreemly frustrating. I ended up making extensions for the hoses.
I also had trouble getting a pump, rang the local Volvo dealer to be told they were $185 AUS but there weren't any in stock. So down to the Ford dealer (the Australian 04 cars have a single twin outlet ford pump) the part was listed but not imported into Australia. Back on the net to Ford Europe found out that Ford Mondeo Mk3 uses the same pump, got one delivered to in a week from a parts retailer in the UK (ebay) for $30 Aus:).
The joys of owning European Cars in Country Australia.

Treated all seats to a cleaning and conditioning with CRC leather treatment. Nice stuff in an aerosol can that can be sprayed on and then rubbed or brushed like a cream. It also leaves the interior smelling like freshly tanned leather. No slipperiness at all in fact you actually stick a bit to the seats.

Put in iPd CBV upgrade kit and installed a boost gauge for some fun. :D

Did you notice any difference? i was just looking at this on Friday and wondering if it was worth it.

Back on topic, i found out that i can safely traverse water at least up to the bottom of the grille with no problems, and the AWD system is a very capable setup.

It seems like the boost builds quicker than it did before the upgrade. Be warned, getting to the bottom bolt is extremely difficult and unless you have the hands of a 3 year old, you pretty much have to reach it from the bottom of the vehicle. My old cbv appeared to be worn out and possibly leaking, which was probably attributed to mileage of my vehicle. All and all I think it was a good upgrade and essential if you are trying to get to stage 0 like I am doing currently!

Replaced the transmission fluid. A Big thanks [thumbup] to ALL those who have done this and posted all the helpful tips on this website. Washed, Clay bared and applied another coat of Klasse sealant. Tommorow I might change the spark plugs.

Went fishing and camping in BC for a weekend. Before we started the trip we loaded the boat on top of the car and smashed the rear window out so we had a 4 hour drive with the rear window covered with plastic. There was a bit of road noise. When I got home the following day a storm hit the city I hit the curb and broke the front rim and bent the spindle. So what did my XC do last week make me write many stupid cheques.

On my 2005 XC70, I drained the transmission and refilled with 3.5 or so quarts of Mobil 1 Sythetic ATF. I also ran some CRC motor flush through the engine and changed the oil to Mobil 1 0W-30 along with a new filter.
I will drain and fill the transmission several more times in the coming months to get the majority of the original fluid changed over to the Mobil 1 ATF.
Lastly, I bought snow tires at Sam's Club. They are 225-60-16 Pacemark Snowtrakker ST/2's and I will mount and balance them in a few weeks, or sooner, depending on our NH. weather.
This weekend I'll be doing similar work on the 2001 BMW 540.
Winter is coming!

Changed a left side rear wheel bearing (yes, you can do it without removing any of the suspension links) and my fall service. Also had the stock resonator replaced, which had lost its cover and was starting to rust thru, with a Magnaflow.

So with both the wheel bearing and resonator changed, the old thing is actually quiet to drive. Its great!

Cheers,

Bill

Spent $878 and 95 cents to have a DDM (Driver's Door Module) replaced. That really, really hurt, but it was better than driving around with plastic duct-taped over the open windows.

Your XC looks too low to be an XC . Did you lower the car somehow ? Or is it a V70 that looks like an XC :)

Changed coolant today. Easiest rad to drain ever, and removed hose off oil cooler underneath (only about 1/2 litre came out here) for the rest. Major pain in the ass, however, to burp all the air out.....had level in reservoir drop about 3 times over all before it was safe enough to take for a drive. Even after a 15 minute drive the level had dropped again. Temp gauge reading normal, both heater hoses hot, both rad hoses hot and cooling fan working. I was doing this with the nose up on ramps, and when I got it hot and backed down off the ramps there was a major expulsion of air and a subsequent top-up. This should be done with the car level if possible. The reservoir is full now but I will be checking again in the morning to make sure all air has come out. I consulted with a Volvo tech buddy of mine and he said they can be cranky due to the amount of plumbing under there. Word of warning: if your car has a few years on it DON'T try to loosen the drain cock in the rear......you will twist the pipe and break it. I took several stabs at mine with moderate pressure (just enough to see the pipe flex but no damage done) and it would not loosen. It's easier to just take one of the hoses off the oil cooler.

Monday AM update:
Great sounding tunes this AM on the way into the nut house!!!! Wish I could have afforded to add the HU850 sooner.

Forgot to mention that I ordered 4 Nokian WR G2 XL in 235 60R16. They arrived in less than 24 hours from Tire Factory!!! A discount and free shipping direct to the tire shop I use. They get installed on Friday. [thumbup]

So here are my first modifications, improvements on my new XC.

Finally got the Michelin (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14885) winter tires installed on the new steel wheels. I learned that when you order TPMS sensors you need the o-ring, nut, and cap service kit (30736598-9) also. That set me back a week because the dealer ran out...

Also, installed an iMiv ipod adapter. While it wasn't easy, it was quite possible for someone without much car experience with the help from swedespeed (http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=128247) and of course PaperToast's (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13146) vadis copy.

Thanks for all the help here. This information is invaluable to someone like me.

Cheers,
Andy
