I hope you're not gonna install that with the XC factory struts/shocks.

I was actually.
Why not?

Why not?

I had a set on before I got the coilovers, and it's gonna give you a real bouncy ride!! [cussing]
I think Justin also tried it, the factory XC struts/shocks are not made to go that low, if you want lower go with Eibach springs made for the XC. Much better option.

I did the Eibach/stock shock route and its works fairly well. Not too stiff, not bouncy. Its really not as low as I would have liked, but considering its an XC I guess its a good compromise between being "lowered" and being practical. Ends up a bit closer to a standard V70 ride height.

Cheers,

Bill

Hrmmmm,
Everything I have read up about them states they make the car firmer and more stable, both on acceleration and braking. NO one has mentioned they will make it more bouncy :(

Besides, how much lower do they make the XC ?

Hey Chilled Man,
Nice work on installing those speakers. My door speakers on my 2003 xc70 are shot, I want to replace them but don't know how to remove the door panel to get to the speakers. Was it difficult? Are you aware of any manuals out there that tell you how to get to the speakers without ruining the door panel?

Oh and to answer the OP:
Today I solved the problem of my 2003 xc70 not starting. For the last two days nothing happened when I turned the key, after a few tries the Inhibitor message came on.
Vovle dealer charged me $175 to tell me my problem was the inhibitor/antenna/and another part in the steering column. Total cost was going to be over $1000.

I got online and resarched, determined it was possibly a starter problem. Went outside, wiggled the starter wires and bang the car starts right up. Instead of a high-dollar dealership bill that wouldn't have fixed the problem anyway I have a loose connection that I fixed with a screwdriver.

Heaven forbid the dealer would have gone out, opened the hood, and wiggled some wires first before suggesting a $1000 fix. Criminal behaviour; no wonder people think dealers, regardless of who they represent, are crooks.

Another example though of people taking back the power to fix their own cars despite crooked dealers.

Cheers,

Bill

Howdy Bill,
Exactly what I thought: did he even look at the vehicle or just charge $175 for a swag?I will ask him exactly that when I call him tomorrow to have him cancel the parts order.

When a novice like me can diagnose the fix over the internet it tells me the certfied pro who missed it wasnt trying real hard.

Im sure there are plenty of competent, reputable dealer shops who are honest but it is definetely a buyer-beware world out there.

Cheers,

Replaced the rear emergency brakes (one side just fell apart), new rotors and pads. I also re-lubed the pins, cleaned the calipers and painted them black. Boy, were they ever dirty...rusty.

In Calgary, they don't use salt, they used calcium carbonate which is not as corrosive as real salt and its also safe for the environment and good for grass. But cars still do rust with any precipitation. :)

I have noticed a developing ugly trend from dealers who instead of correctly diagnosing faults by actually looking properly, they always want to replace a perfectly working part with new parts and charge full price.

with one from a '04. I would suggest anyone doing this to get a replacement from '04 -'07.

The newer mirrors come with a plastic template glued to the mirror, and the circuit board snaps into the plastic, no need to use double sided tape. So reattaching the circuit board from your old mirror to the replacement one is much easier.

You still have to unglue the double sided tape from the circuit board on your old mirror.

Just did an oil change with Lubro Moly 10W-40 (http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?R=AORLM2043_0058582496) with MOS2. This stuff works! I noticed a difference immediately and so did my wife (who could barely notice a difference if a tire was flat or not...)! I would highly recommend this to anyone with a higher mileage XC70 as it smoothed the engine out noticeably. I also put in a K&N cartridge filter to see if I noticed any difference. The next item on my list is to relax and enjoy the weekend...:)

OK,
today I had the new EVOLVE V70R sport springs installed.

I think they'll be up for sale very soon.
From all the literature around saying they will dump the car 1 - 1.5 " all round it's actually incorrect. The front height is fine and spot on the height I was after but the rears OMFG slammed down about 6 INCHES.

I dont like it.

Hey gang - I'm new here...

What did I do to my (new to me) 2006 XC70 Ocean Race?

Installed the iMIV Classic module (thanks to Art's amazing step-by-step directions I found on this forum!)... and hard wired up my Sirius and Ipod to the stereo...

I also installed a trailer hitch (to use with my bike rack), ordered wing profile cross bars and a Thule ski box for the roof.

All of this is in preparation for a marathon road trip from Leamington, Ontario (home of Point Pelee, Canada's southernmost national park and point of land) to Whitehorse, Yukon where I'll be starting my new job in May - should be quite the "Cross Country" trek!

Why did you take it all back to stock?

The R is lit up from above ~ whereas the XC dials are back lit.
I need to feed power to a plug to light up these LEDs - which shine upon the blue R dials.
Dont worry, I will have it all back in asap, but im not too keen on the mph dial. Hence I am on the look out for a km/h dial [thumbup]

The V70R has a white plug (different shape) - which is why I had to fully dismantle both clusters and mix'n'match.

We have them now and then in www.bildelsbasen.se, just type in the articlenumber on the right. Perhaps to pricy with shipment, but just giving info.

I got new rotors all the way around and ceramic pads. As much as I wanted to do the install myself, I left it to a trusted shop. Later on when it warms up more here, I will toy with the idea of upgrading the calipers. (anyone interested, I took a chance on the R1 Concepts rotors) its only been about 100 miles, so far nothing to report.

I'm also looking for the absolute loudest air horn I can find! I'm going to set up a relay and a switch so I can go back and forth between the stock and aftermarket horns. My parents deep in the country and the last two times I came to visit, my stock horn was not enough to summon them to the gate of their 10+ acre compound. Silly reason, yes.. But a can assure you, it has nothing to do with the fact that I live in NYC. NO ONE uses horns there..;)

I may have soiled myself...

I saw one a few years back called "Puffy" but i cant seem to find it...

Basically I want some metal (stainless?) horns (1,2 or 3) and I'd rather keep the compressor under the hood if all possible so I guess I cant go that big. I dont want to sacrifice any cargo space and would rather not lose any storage space either. I suppose I could go in one of the pods to the left or right of the of the main cargo area but I have my first aid kit in one.

DO you have a recording of how that thing sounds? I kinda want "Big Rig" or Diesel Train Horn....
