    Default AW50-51 or AW55-50 2001 xc70

Can anyone verify what transmission comes stock in a 2001 xc70. I had the dealer run the VIN and it comes back as a AW50-51. I thought the 2001-2002 xc70's came with the aw55-50.
    Thanks

    51 AWD
    50 FWD

Both have similar issues for that year.

I have an AWD xc70. So do I have a AW55-51 or a AW50-51? I would like to replace the linear solenoids but I can only find them for the AW55-51 and the AW55-50. There are no listings for the AW50-51 that the dealer said my car has. I even called transgo and they don't even list a AW50-51?

Usually when the AW50-51 designation is use it is to refer to both AWD and FWD variations, if you are unsure look for the name plate in the transmission located somewhere in the area below the air box.

in short, you have a AW55-51.

Why do you want to replace the solenoids?

When I was looking the valve body and solenoids on ebay for my aw55-51sn (2006 xc70 awd), the listings suggest that these v/b and solenoids are direct replacements for aw55-50 and aw55-51, so that v/b and solenoids work for both gearbox models (I guess IM humble O)

Nope, early years came with AW50. It is weaker than AW55 unfortunately, but transmission rebuilders can retrofit more sturdy parts from AW55. Mechanically AW55 is almost as good as automatic transmission can be.
