    Default Checking my oil today

I checked my oil today after letting the car sit for a day, and the oil level was half way, was wondering if its burning oil, never see leaks and have checked filter and drain plug and other places for possible leaks. Has anyone else noticed this with there V70xc ? My dad was telling me maybe not letting the turbo cool down enough, but I even if I didn't wouldn't lose half my oil. I usually cool it down for a min or 2 sometimes 30 seconds after short drives. Anyone with any insight or has noticed this with theres?

as the car age, the turbo seal will wear slowly. Sitting to cool your car is a waste of gas. For one, you should never get on your car hard before you turn off the car. Second, you have a water cooled turbo. It should be enough to prevent the turbo from getting cooked. Just use some common sense

Also, older engines will burn oil more, possible because of the valves.

Yeah I know these volvo are water based turbo, but I live in the city and do a lot of trips stop and go etc, so I consider that driving a lil hard enough for me to cool it down. Do you guys cool your car after a few hr drive ? Doubt I'm going to add half oil when the other half is dirty so I'm just going to get the oil and filter, and change it can't wait to use my new oil filter socket Oh I'm curious what kind of oil you guys be using in your XC's ? I use 10-30 castrol full sytec 6 quarts.

stop and go is tough on the car, but its not as bad as revving to 7000rpm every 3 sec. Just sit for a max. of 15 sec and you will be fine. I have never had a turbo failure that is related to me, and I race the crap out of my cars.

I prefer Mobil 1 5w30 for the winter, 10w30 in the summer. 5w and 10w are fine, 20w if you are in the desert. I didnt like Castro on my last Miata, I loved it for the RX-7

If the turbo seals are bad would that damage the turbo and drop the boost coming from the turbo ? I've got to find out why its burning will take it to my boy to see if he can check the turbo out. Since I added a quart the oil level hasn't gone down meaning it hasn't burned anymore oil. With 145000 miles I guess the wear and tear is about to start kicking my ass lol

    Default Lucas oil treatment

My volvo friend was telling me to try lucas engine stablizer oil treatment, it may help the oil from burning, I eliminated some possibilites that the the oil is not leaking from the filter or pan and around the turbo there is no oil leak, so I'm guessing valve seals. I changed the oild 500 miles ago, and I checked yesterday the level was half way down. I'm guessing with 146k on the engine and with the turbo is normal for it to burn oil, but so much.. Have any of you guys tried the engine stablizer treatment on your XC's ?

I wasn't a believer in "snake oils" until I tried Lucas. I use Mobil 1 synthetic with one quart of Lucas synthetic additive. I've been pleased with the results so far. The engine still leaks a bit but I really need to do some pcv maintenance as well.

At 70,000 mile my wife's 99XC uses a little less than 1 quart every 5000 miles. Mobil 1 10W/30 year-round since we don't really have winter here. If you want to know the overall condition of your engine then have an oil analysis done. It is worth the 20 bucks or so. Go here:
