Tight doesn't mean OK...you can have bearing damage and it won't manifest itself as looseness...for example, if the races are brinelled...

I was chasing down the same problem, sound exactly the same. Mine sounded like it was on the driver side, replaced both front and rear wheel bearings. got nothing finally # 3 was the winner. The front left was tight as hell. Could not tell until it was off the drive shaft, when you can spin it independently. the one drawback of all wheel drive

I found them on ebay from Detroit Axel for just under $40.00 with shipping. I realize a lot of you purest shun the idea of the cheap bearings but I usually don't keep my cars for more than 3 yrs. the differences between 170.00 vrs 40.00 is too much and I swear they look and feel really good for 40 bucks, they wont probably last ten yrs but I don't need them to.

I found a little way not to drop the shock on the rear wheel like the video shows. I put the car on jack stands on one side and use the jack to compress the suspension and it give you a little more room to reach the one bolt and it can come out. hope this helps

Thanks for the heads up. I took out an $8k loan for this car. I have sunk another $5k to repair it. Not including this upcoming wheel bearing issue....

Have you been able to rule out the tires? How old are they? How much mileage? I like the idea of rotating from back to front and see if the noise moves, changes...
