    Default Specific Hitch question

    Greetings,

I have an 02 XC that I am trying to add an OE hitch to. I had an aftermarket on it, but it was a 1 1/4" and rusted very badly. I want a 2" so I am looking at the OEM.

The Volvo part number for the XC is 30682087

The Volvo part number for the V70 is 30682101

Other than the cladding, what could be different about the 2 cars? I would think the bolt holes are in the same place etc. Does anyone have knowledge of an actual physical difference between the XC and V70 tow bars? I'd prefer to buy used and there seem to be more used V70 tow bars than XC70.

Are these 2 essentially the same hitch allowing me to use the V70 hitch on my XC?

Also, does anyone have knowledge of what comes in the Screw kit Part # 9481221?

I have googled the heck out of this, but googling only goes so far.

    Thanks,

    Keith

ID:	7621In the UK late 2001 XC70 (V70XC AWD = same thing) the factory fit tow bar was brink. It is nothing like your linky picture. It is
1 removable (stowable in wheel well)

2 Lockes in place with a quick release mechanism, which is in-turn lockable with a Yale tye key.

3 Stows / deploys in 2 or three minutes.
What you illustrate is I believe an aftermarket solution, so I do not see why a competant auto engineer cannot sort this for you. There is already an artical on Volvo XC about XC tow bars. Perhaps "search" can find it for you?

Smart man going with OEM. I did the same on my V70. The part numbers you show seem to be identical. I wonder if a call to your local dealer (with your VIN handy) might reveal one of the two numbers to be their official one?

Isn't the "Screw kit" the little pieces that hold the connector to the hitch?

Incidentally, I have a brand new trailer module in a box here that I don't need. Part # 30664652 / 12245629 (the box says 30664974?!). If that's what you need for your car, PM me and we might make a deal if you don't get it elsewhere.

What does the trailer module do? I have 2 wire harnesses that are supposed to plug in to existing wiring. I've never heard of a module.

    thanks,

I bought the OEM hitch kit for an 01 XC many years ago. It doesn't quite look like the picture as the 2" receiver is coming straight out from the bumper cutout.

For the 01-04(I think), a trailer module is not needed. Everything is pre-wired in the car and the wiring supplied with the OEM kit simply plugs in to a connector that is located inside the plastic cover in the bottom back of the trunk. Post 04 cars apparently need a computer module programmed to the car using VIDA.

I believe I got the US specific parts from here: http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/pr.../30682110.html

Ok, thanks granlund. I have a 2002, so that is why I apparently don't need it. I have what you say - wiring that plugs directly into the car's pre-existing wiring. Works great. I even get a flashing green arrow when the trailer is plugged in and the turn signal is activated. It's a good way to know the trailer lights are working while driving.

My hitch is installed and I have towed the trailer. Everything went well. I do like the OE hitch with the 2" receiver. It seems well build and fits up under the car much better than the drawtite I used to have. Clearance is better, and the OE is bolted on with 3 bolts each side as opposed to 2 each side with the drawtite.

Next stop - a bike rack that uses the 2" receiver.

    Thanks again,

    Keith
