    Default Blue Smoke on idle

Hi, first post, glad I found the forum.

My wife just picked up an 05 SC90, runs great, has 164k on the clock. It did have a check engine light, which I checked and came back with p0089. I plan on inspecting the fuel filter and replacing if needed first. Another problem it has, and the one that has me worried the most, is a blue oily smoke while sitting at idle. It has the 2.5T, and I'm guessing the turbo has some oil getting by the seals. Is this common? If so, could that have gotten the CAT dirty and causing the code? Just looking for areas to start trouble shooting. Thanks for any help.

You don't inspect a fuel filter , you replace the fuel filter . You found the P0089 code , what is the code description and what are the possible causes ?
If the vehicle hasn't been properly maintained the turbo could be bad . Remove the air boot on the intake side of the turbo and look for evidence of oil on the inside of the air boot and impeller . Check the up & down movement of the shaft . Look for specs ( Google) on this to see if it is still o.k.
Someone else w/more knowledge will chime in to help .

Thanks.. Checked fuel pressure.. It goes up to 65psi at start up, and settles around 43psi. I put a new filter on it, CEL came back on. I put a new fuel pressure sensor on it.. CEL came back on.. Is that pressure in range? Only thing else I can think of is a weak pump if not.. AND if not, can just the pump inside the big ole canister deal be changed, and not the whole $300 canister?

Also, on the occasional blue smoke.. I have did the glove test on the dipstick tube, slight outward pressure, no vacuum for sure. Can the PCV canister be 'cleaned'?

The blue oily smoke is blue oily smoke coming from the oil in your oil pan . Repair your PCV problem and this should go away .

p0089 is = fuel pressure regulator 1 performance code . You will have to doo a lot of research ( Google ) and info from this site to find out the first calculated step to take .
    Good luck !

Well, I've replaced fuel filter and pressure sensor, seems the only thing left in the system is the pump / regulator, which is one large assembly. I posted my pressures above, mainly wondering what the factory spec is on fuel pressure. I have searched Google dry BTW.

Well, I have acquired a PCV kit I will be installing this weekend, will update on the smoking. I also found the spec for the fuel pressure, it should be ~57 psi at idle, where mine is 43 psi. Looks like the pump assembly will be replaced in the near future. Just wanted to update.

I hope ( if you do it ) you do not have 3rd row seats. Don't ask how I know ! You will need the special socket along w/specific procedures on R&R of the pump !
