Default Re: XC90 $20,000 in Repairs

Gentlemen(and ladies) I am in the process of taking legal action against Volvo Canada for compensation related to counter balance shaft and transmission failures on my 2005 XC90. So far I have been able to acquire all TSB's and RTJ's pertaining to these known design flaws on the Yamaha built drivetrain.

There are "classified" bulletins related to shaft bearing and valve body failures that I have been unable to acquire. If there is anyone out there that can dig these up for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks....Jay

    Default Re: 2005 XC90 V8 $20,000 in Repairs C-B Shaft + Valve Body/Trans

Hey...I picked up my XC90 at the dealer here in Saskatoon today. The total bill for a software upgrade(which didn't help)and a valve body replacement(which didn't fix the transmission shuddering)ultimately requiring a complete transmission came out to just under $13,000. I've found bulletins pertaining to this common transmission problem (on '05s). In one bulletin there is a note identifying transmissions starting with serial number 06J and later that already have the latest valve body which was designed to prevent the shuddering. This known design flaw is no different than the counterbalance shaft bearing that they were also aware of. I'm not sure if your dealer charged you a $500 inspection/certification fee when you inported your XC90 but I was told that they wouldn't touch it if I didn't pay the $500. After the certification they told me that all recalls had been done and that everything checked out. It's at that point where Volvo Canada is compelled under what is called "implied contract" they took my $500 for a certification and did not comply with the contract by advising me of the known design flaws with the '05 XC90 V8.

So this sad saga continues (total so far over $20,000) but rest assured I will not stop till I'm compensated.
I also have an ace in the hole, a friend of mine works for CBC and I've told him this story and if things don't go my way they could find themselves getting some very negative press(a' la Toyota). So stay tuned, thanks again for your note.

    Cool

    Hi
I am in Australia and have a 2006 XC90. I encountered a problem with water entering the car when it was parked in the rain. As the dealer could not replicate the problem with a h ose in their workshop - Volvo Australia refused to accept that I had a problem - notwithstanding that the mats became saturated when it stood in the rain. It got to the stage that I advised them that I would approach one of the current affair TV programs and get them national exposure that they could not afford to buy...alas I was then phoned by one of their head honchos who decided I did have a problem and a fix was found. It was a siple fix - the rubber door seal does not have any drain points so they cut a "V" at the bottom allowing the water that was previously pooling on the inner sill and entering the car to escape out onto the roadway. So BlueJay enlisting the assistance of your friend at CBC may be the solution - and also making every other XC90 owner that is having the same problem aware that there is a solution.
