I assume the engine number is stamped somewhere on the body, can someone tell me where that is?
Is the 5244 T the engine installed on the 2000 XC?
Thanks in advance,
Joel

Yes, I'm pretty sure 98-00 XC have the LPT engine with 190hp. The base 70 series have the 168hp, as I have an S70 with this, while the 236 and 261hp are the T5 and R w/ HPT, I think. The non-XC SE share the 190hp as well with the XC (and maybe some non-XC AWD and GLT/GLE, though I'm not as familiar with those designations). The XC SE has the same engine as XC.Originally Posted by ncst8wuf

4th - 8th Character: The 4th through 8th characters in your Volvo's VIN reveals its features/attributes, such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc. Again, this varies widely among car makes, models and equipment.
You VIN is on your dash under windshield, but if you have 98-00 XC then it should start with these common codes.
Y - Sweden
V - Volvo
1 - division (are they all 1 ?)
LZ56D - I believe 56 is the engine code, can't find a recent reference though.
...
I can't find a real good single resource to confirm this now, but I recall doing a lot of searching and reading when I got my 98 S70 and 00 XC. The IPD upgrades seem to agree with this.
