    Default Crappy looking steering wheel

04 XC70, has the tan leather wrapped steering wheel. I can clean it but I think the color on it the leather has flaked off in spots. You know what I'm talking about. Looks awful. Ive seen little bottles of leather paint at Michaels, does anyone have a suggestion on a way to improve this? Thanks, Dave

Mine looks like this too ('05 w/ 178,000 miles). I've been wondering the same thing, I even debated on getting used replacement wood wheel. I remember seeing JRL post info on cars he's was selling here that showed he had the steering wheel's leather refinished, so I'm guessing it can be done.

Perkins- in addition to my 04 with the crappy wheel, I also have an 03 with the sweet wooden steering wheel. My local U Pull It yard sells steering wheels for $10. If I can find a pretty one, I might just swap it out as it looks like pulling the wheel off is pretty easy. Call the ugly one "Garage wall art". Dave

I simply found a matching color wheelskins and wrapped it in that. A bit thicker, but the wheelskins has held up for many years and is very nice quality.

My '02 V70 XC has a light tan leather steering wheel that had worn in the same manner. I found leather dye at a shoe store that matched pretty well. I put three coats on and it looks brand new. Be careful not to get any on the other steering wheel components - it 's impossible to get off!

Yeah- that's what I was thinking about. I guess I'll have to go to the mall sometime to find a shoe store.....Dave

I have an 02 charcoal interior. Went with wheelskins. For the shoe dye use rubber gloves. The solvent is acetone or nail polish remover
