Canadian osd program

Hi all,

I'm looking into the OSD delivery for an 03 XC70 and was
impressed to see all the incentives (flights, hotel, limo etc.).
However these incentives only seem available to US
residents. In talking with a Canadian rep they claim not
to offer any of the travel incentives. This seems pretty
harsh to me!  

Are there any Canadians out there who can share their
experience with the OSD program and especially if any
travel incentives were available to them?

Also, if anyone has a contact at Volvo in Sweden I can
send email to in order to inquire as to why the travel
incentives are not offered to Canada I would appreciate
it.

Hi stp and welcome to the forum! I'm not in Canada, but there have been a couple of posts about this topic recently - like within the last two weeks. You are right that the incentives are not the same as those for U.S. residents - it does seem very unfair - but apparently there are incentives in Canada.

When you say you talked to a rep., was that a dealer rep. or a Volvo Canada rep? You can call the U.S. number at 1-800-631-1667 Option 2 to get the Canadian telephone number for the OSD program...

I seem to recall the same when we first took a look at OSD as a delivery option, but the main reason we went with a dealer directly was the long wait for OSD.. just didn't have the patience at the time.

I'm not surprised about the marked difference in bonuses versus American customers, especially considering a base XC70 in the US starts at $33,870 USD and the Canadian version starts at $50,195, which converts to 32,421.23 USD. To add, our car comes standard with premium and cold weather packages, about a $3K value.

Volvo's got a much stronger incentive to seel these cars to US customers than to us Canadians

Gentlemen,

The canadian OSD program was explained extensively to me when we I was shopping around for my wife's XC.  I was considering this, as I spend more than half my time in Europe.  Actually, our OSD program is really for tourists spending a long period of time oversea and diplomatic/long term posting in Europe.

The main advantage is to save taxes by bringing a "used car" to Canada.  The problem lies in the time your car need to be used outside Canada to give you a good tax break.  The tax break given to me for using my car 3 months in europe before bringing it back here  was around cdn$ 800 - not worth the risk of driving your brand new BIG car in the little streets of Paris...  

The representative never discussed the fact that Volvo could pick up the bill for airfare and hotel.  I guess that this is not necessary in view of the length of time needed to be spent oversea to geta good tax break, making ot worthwhile only for someone planning either a long term vacation or getting a post over the pond would be eligible for  - in both cases something that is not just specific to getting a new car...
