Default Just flushed the transmission, second gear still clunking

So I just flushed the automatic transmission on my 2007 D5 XC70 because it was shifting sluggishly, and sometimes making clunking noises, rather hard ones. After the flush, it shifts smoother, but it still makes clunking sounds, only when shifting to second gear (both from first and third). Obviously, I don’t like that. Anything I can do myself? Or is it just as quickly as possible to an AT specialist? Or just drive until it gives up?

I believe a 07 Euro spec XC70 is similar to US 08 XC70. If this is the case, then you have an Aisin Warner AWTF80SC 6 speed auto. All the US 01-07 V70XC/XC70 use the previous generation AW55-50 5 speed auto.

Following article suggest valvebody is the main culprit which is true for just about all modern auto transmission problem these days. And this basic transmission design was used on a lot of different cars just like the previous generation

Rebuild valvebody (VB) are on ebay so definitely a market for them.

Found this link for a VB replacement on a US spec 06 V70R. I believe it uses TF80-SC transmission as well. Note the this car's chassis is different from yours.

Thanks for the input! If I can get away with less than a complete new tranny, that would be great. Will definitely check this up further!

Visited my Volvo workshop today, and they suggested to reset the adaptation first. So I will first have to get my VIDA working, and try that. They of course offered to do a diagnosis, but my experience there is that I pay (a lot!!!) for very little results...

I had my 2007 S80 TF80SC transmission "serviced" at the local Volvo dealership. It shifted fine before the service. They used 8 liters of high priced Volvo fluid. I had occasional shifting bangs going into second gear. I requested the level be checked and paid them for their service. But, they never did anything. I finally checked the level. It was 28 ounces low. The level plug was stripped and the drain had heavy markes on the outer diameter as if a pipe wrench or large pliers was used to loosen the plug. Once I had the level correct, the transmission shifts like new. I used Mobil 3306 fluid. Advice, make sure the level is correct and the fluid is clean.

I'm guessing you mean Mobil 3309 fluid....
