I would not use a blend, it won't survive the winter and you'll end up with a thinned out oil by spring causing even more engine wear.
0W30 is an excellent choice. By definition, a 0W30 will be a full synthetic oil.

When I recommend the Mobil 0W40, it's based on several factors, but you shouldn't fear it as being "too heavy", it's actually within about 10% of the 30 weight viscosity specification, so the difference between it and a 0W30 is quite minor. Both my Volvos are running on a 0W30 synthetic right now.

I would use 0W30 year round except the Midwest summer is too hot, above 90F 0W40 is recommended by Volvo which is why I switch to 0W40 in May and back to 0W30 in November. Also my wife's XC90 leaks too much 0W30 from the vacuum pump during the summer so I have to use 0W40 - or rebuild the vacuum pump

I've been using 0w40 in my bricks for a few years now, with a slight gain in mpg and also the reduced hassle of worrying about changing at the first temp change for the seasons
