Default Oil filter cartidge removal tool?

    Hi all,

Tried to change my oil on this 2006 XC70 for the first time and found the oil filter cartridge couldn't be removed by my filter tool because the cartridge is tucked up into a space that doesn't allow enough access. Can't quite get to it well enough to even turn it with some channel locks.

I found some promising-looking tools at Autozone that would probably fit around the end of the cartridge and allow the use of a wrench, but not sure about the size I need. Can anyone advise on what tool I should get for this cartridge removal?

    Thanks --

    Harold

I have used this one for many years - but there are cheaper pressed steel ones available also

I'd highly recommend you get the one Hoonk has and not the cheap pressed steel version.

I got one from the stealership for less than $25 and it is 100% better than the one I got from IPD

Agreed. I made the mistake of getting the pressed steel version and the reinforcing piece at the socket popped off the first time I used it. I was able to rivet the whole thing back together and still use it today. However, if starting afresh, I would buy a heavier duty model as suggested by others.
