one to one interchange or not? thanks
A question best asked of a junkyard, who will have access to the Hollander interchange information.
Were I to guess, it would be: no.
2005 brought VVT to the intake as well as the exhaust - so there will be differences in VVT, and the ECM will be mismatched with the VVT set-up as well.
Current Fleet:
2016 Tundra Crewmax 4WD 1794
2005 MB S600 (130K, Michelin AS4, HPL 0W40)
2005 MB SL600 (58K Michelin AS4, Mobil 1 0W40)
2004 V70R (147K, six speed M66, HPL 5W40)
2004 XC90 (247K, HPL 0W30 Euro)
2002 V70-XC (300K, HPL 0W30 Euro)
2002 V70-T5 (230K, IPD bars, Bilsteins)
2001 V70-T5 (125K, IPD downpipe, cat back and other mods)
1932 Packard Sedan (straight 8, dual sidemounts, original paint and interior, Shell Rotella 15W40)
2005-2007 heads are interchangeable.
For compatibility sakes, here is what we know:
2001/2002: 2001 series intro with standard 2.4T petrol engine. 2002 little changes.
2003/2004: the 2.5T now standard petrol engine. 2003-2004 are 100% interchangeable.
2005/2007 - minor engine and exterior updates. New radio and electronics. 2005-2007 parts are almost always interchangeable.
Keep in mind, most 2003-2007 engine components are similar - Erie VoVo would know for sure. As Astro said - small tweaks were introduced into the 2005 for the VVT. Similarly, 2001-2007 interior components are the mostly the same (i.e. seats, interior molding pieces, accessories etc). And as always, fuel types matter too for engines (i.e. diesel vs petrol).

I think that this 2004 head is a square peg...why jam it in the round hole that is your 2007 car?
You need a head? Then get one from the same year car!

As most car manufacturers used same engine block and head over long period of time, the heads can fit but components changed you might can not used or fit on difference MY.
