    Default turbo oil leak

I got a 2011 XC60 T6 3.0. The turbo started leaking lots of oil onto my driveway. I tried getting a good look where its coming from but hard to pinpoint. I understand if its leaking externally its most likely a supply or drain hose not internal to the turbo. Is this correct? Anybody familiar with issues on these? Not sure if its worth the effort to pull the turbo and inspect or if it can reseal it in place.

    thanks!

Are you sure the leak is from the Turbo? The most common oil leak on that engine is from the vacuum pump.

definitely is from the turbo, but not sure if internal to turbo or coming from one of the banjo bolts and/or oil feed line at the back.

The "turbo" starts off as a pieces of cast iron and cast aluminum, and the connections/bearing housings are machined into them. Unless there is a crack in the iron the leak has to come from a connection or pipe. If the shaft seals leak in the turbo, on either intake or exhaust side - oil ends up in the exhaust and lots of smoke occurs.

More than likely, the banjo bolt that holds the oil supply pipe to the top of the turbo, has loosened off. This will make oil piss out all over the back of the engine and then undercoat the bottom of the car. You can get at that bolt from underneath the car by reaching up to it with a short/stubby ratchet with a 17mm socket. Turbo is at the back of the engine and you really have to have a good reach to get it...it's easier to get at it with the car on a hoist.

It's always disappointing not to hear the end of the story!

Has anyone tried this from the top of the engine (removing the PCV box)?
