    Default New member question

Sorry, I'm new to this forum and site. My son has a 2001 XC that I'm trying to fix. My question is on the tag on the Timing belt cover it says the engine is a B5244T3, while the emissions tag on the hood says it is a B5244S. Which one do I buy parts for? Are they the same engine, or has the original engine been replaced.

I don't have the answer off the top of my head. What parts are you looking to buy? Online sites like IPDUSA and FCPEuro require you to enter your make/model/year when buying parts and then will guarantee fitment of the part. This approach has worked for me so far.

5244T3 is the turbo engine you have in your car, 5244S is the non turbo version that was available in the v70/s60 but not the xc.
Maybe someone installed a used hood from a non turbo car.

It's definitely got the turbo. Thanks now to order a bunch of parts and start tearing it down. I didn't want to do that until I had some kind of confirmation. The last Volvo we had that I worked on was a 78 245.
