2004 Volvo V40

My daughter's MY04 V40 just passed 150k (purchased in 2010 with 92K miles). All and all it's been a very reliable car.

I'm working through several maintenance actions on the vehicle and have two comments/questions.

1. When changing the plugs the other day, I noticed the engine (4 cylinder 1.9L) only has two ignition coils whereas my MY 04 XC 70 has one for each cylinder, which is my experience with other cars that use ICs. Any reason for this?

2. The transmission functions normally although I dont know if the ATF has ever been replaced. Therefore I plan to do a drain and fill with Mobil 3309. I assume 3309 is compatible.

Check here, http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/.../04sv40_09.htm In this owners manual, the transmission fluid is JWS 3309. I purchased Mobil 3309 from Amazon as was not available here in Pa. I did three drains/fills with a few hundred miles between.

Understand this is the AWD site and as an XC 70 owner, the reason I joined. Just thought there also might be a few V40 owners here as well.

The V40 is quite a different animal - shared chassis venture, 4 cylinder, etc...

No idea on your questions as a result...sorry...but changing the trans fluid is always a good idea.
