A cooler line exchange won't hurt it, in my opinion (other disagree with me on that point). That's the "Gibbons Flush" described on this forum under resources. It's also what IPD describes in their kit. If you drain it, you exchange about 3.5 QT of the total 8 QT capacity. You'll have to do that several times to get close to a 100% fluid exchange.
It would help to know how many miles on this car, and what service has previously been done to the transmission...
I did the cooler line exchange on my XC when I bought it - it had just over 90,000 miles on it then. The transmission worked far better after the fresh fluid was in it. Eventually, I had the valve body rebuilt, but that's another story. Exchanging fluid is basic maintenance.
