Well I weigh about 150 and my neighbor about 250- together we sat on my rear bumper with the tailgate open and down we went- about an inch or so.
Some research showed this setup as including plastic rivets?
Have been driving with this for some time but would like to fixit- any ideas?

Nope either the bumper brackets are loose or you bent them!
(not uncommon)
