Default 2003 XC Passenger compartment Fuse Box

Where and how do I get to the Passenger Compartment fuse box in a 2003 XC70.
Last night the alarm went off again with the doors unlocked and no combination of locking/unlocking, starting the vehicle would stop the alarm. Finally had to pull the neg lead on the battery at 2am in the morning with the County Sheriff driving by for a look see as we are very remote. I understand the fuse #38 is for the alarm but will also cause the sun roof to be inoperable. that I can live with but being not being able to silence the alarm and having to get at the battery wearing hearing muffs, I cannot live with!
    Thanks for any information.-Dick

Update: Found fuse box and pulled fuse #38 5A. Everything seem,s to work including sun roof. When I set the Alarm Function by locking the vehicle with the remote, pressing the Alarm Button on the Remote activates the Horn intermittently but the not the alarm?
I am going to keep the vehicle locked and see what happens.

Do you have alarm service message? If so the siren is likely broken (fairly common failure at 10 years) Disconnect the siren (inside the passenger wheel liner) leaves everything else functional.

I have set off my alarm several times and the horn sounds repeatedly but I have never heard a siren. Is it possible I don't have one? How can I test to see if I have one?

Siren is located here inside the passenger front wheel liner

    http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...p?t=17479&f=11

It has a speaker inside and I presume that is what makes the alarm sounds. I've never heard any of these P2s not having a siren. Perhaps you can set it off (lower window, lock car with remote and reach in and pull the door lock knob) and listen if the sound source is the horn or inside the wheel liner.

Howard64, thanks. I tried that and no alarm or horn sounded. The horns went off when I activated them with the remote but no siren. The sunroof works. Maybe the siren is disconnected for some reason but I am the only owner and have never done that. I guess I will just ignore the problem since it does not bother me.

    Walt:

The siren is not associated with any remote function as best as I can tell. To activate the siren the car has to be "broken into". Lock the car with the window rolled town, then reach in and unlock the car. If your siren is still good, which I doubt considering the age, the siren will sound. My understanding is that the siren battery pack has an 8 year life, more or less, and by looking at threads here on the subject that seems to hold up. That is also assuming that the battery has not leaked electrolyte all over the circuit board screwing it up.

These things can be rebuilt (I have a thread on that subject out there somewhere) but the circuit board has to be usable which appears to be a problem in most cases. If you do a used one, which is another option, make sure you get as new a one as you can, as indicated by the build code on the module. Obviously, the older they are, the closer they are to the battery giving up

    Cheers,

You can ignore it for a while, but the car will continue to give you an "Alarm System Service Required" message in the DIM once your alarm module fails. My module failed - and the circuit board was toast. Were I to install a used module, I would replace the battery prior to the installation. It appears to be the battery failure that kills the module, and in my case, the circuit board.

    Thanks, guys.

I had always figured that the horns and the alarm would go off together. I have heard the horn part of the alarm many times but never the alarm. It is though I don't have one. There is no message regarding the alarm in the DIM. Many have reported that the alarm failure causes the sunroof to not work. My sunroof is fine. When I lock the car with the window rolled down and reach in and unlock the car nothing happens. As I said, it is as though I don't have an alarm. This is a mystery not worth solving since I can, and apparently have for some time, live without an alarm if it's absence causes no other trouble.

Today I played with the alarm system some more. I sat in the car and activated the alarm. Opening the door did nothing. Pulling up on the unlock button did nothing. I rolled down the window, got out and again activated the alarm. Unlocking the car the first time did nothing but the second time caused the alarm to sound. So, I do have an alarm siren. It appears to be intermittently active and that is fine with me.

I wanted to report back to finish off the discussion.

    Again, thanks for your replies.

When the Alarm starts to go off intermittantly, just pull fuse #38 and you are back to square one!-Dick
