    Default Sunroof does not operate.

I am the second owner and have had my 2005 xc70 for 6 years. Without any warning signs the sun roof will not operate at all, it is in the closed position but will not open or vent. I operated the roof several weeks ago and it worked fine. I checked the fuse and it looked fine but changed it anyway, still no good. It makes no noise, no motor working, almost like it get no power. A few weeks ago, the driver side mirror electrics were disconnected inside the door to replace the rubber window moldings (sun rot in Florida) and reconnected with no problems. I don't see where there would be any connection, no pun intended.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas.

    Thanks.

It might be due to your siren module having a deceased long-life battery. These batteries last about 7-8 years and when they give out your alarm siren will no longer work. When that happens you get some weird behaviour like the emergency flashers going off after the car sits a while and the sun roof will not open. The way to see if this might be the case, roll the windows down and lock the car from the outside. Then reach thru the open window and lift the lock button. If yours is like mine the siren should go off if all is working. If not, then the siren module might be the culprit. The other option is to do a VIDA scan and it will tell you if the security system is OK or not.

    Cheers,

    This works for 01-02s
Turn the key in the door 3 times (open and close the doors) do not use the remote, use the key.
that resets a lot of stuff

Bill's suggestion that it might be the siren module is well worth checking out. On our '05 S80 it failed but it wasn't the battery. Instead the circuitry where the wiring harness plugs into the module was corroded and fried. A replacement cost over $200. If that proves to be your problem here's a link to a description of the replacement of the module in a 2001 S80. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...p?t=17479&f=11 The process was the same on my '05.

Thanks for the help but still no go. I tried the open window and pull up the the locked door lock - no sound or blinking lights. Tried the lock unlock trick, still no go. Just for kicks, I pressed the panic button on the remote, the horn goes off and lights blink. no siren, is there one ? so, I don't know what that is about. No messages but I will get a read out from the car's computer at AutoZone.

    Perkins -
Autozone can only read common OBD II codes, not the codes on the CAN that are proprietary to Volvo. The trip to Autozone will tell you nothing about this problem.

There is a siren installed in your car.

Yours is fried....and that fried siren is on the CAN, and controlled by the same module that runs the sunroof.

Replace the siren. Your sunroof problem will go away.

First try the lock unlock 3 times, nothing to lose except 20 seconds!
If that doesn't work it probably IS the alarm

ok I guess it is the siren. Now to find out where they hide it in a 2005 xc70 ?

If it's anything like my '02, then it's in the right fenderwell. You'll have to remove the liner, in front of the wheel, that requires drilling out the rivets, and you'll have to drill out, or cut a slot in, the security screws...

Howard posted some good directions on his site...
