    Default Engine Knock

    I have a tic, tic, tic when the car heats up or idles. The oil level is fine. Happens more frequent the hotter it is outside. Is there an easy way to make this go away. I thought I head there was a technical bulletin about how a oil line could loose an o ring (the line that feeds the top of the valve train). I thought it was like an hour fix but was told if you go to the stealer they will say you need a full valve job?

    Is this a DIY?

    Did you check the engine oil ? If not might have a engine problem. Sometimes I hear my car going tic tic after a long drive but thats when the car is off, but I notice that with most cars when driving after hot.

    Lightbulb Oil type

    What kind of oil are you using? I would consider a synthetic for yours due to the age and mileage.

    I just got it changed with the new high mileage stuff that is supposed to recondition seals. It didn't get any better.

    Is there some sort of tube that feeds oil to the valves or lifters that can get clogged or loose a seal preventing top end lubrication when hot?

    Did you try checking your engine mounts for cracks or breaks?

    I had the mounts done at the 100K service. They are new. The ticking comes from inside the engine, top end.

    I heard a very similar sound coming from the upper section of my engine before, but it went away after its last tune up, so I don't really know what it was.

    Yeah my xc does the same thing usually when I'm idling at mcdonalds drive through for a long period of time. Usually after I start normal driving it will go away. I have noticed that it does seem to do it more often when the oil levels are below a half quart low.
