Default Check Engine Light - Question

My CEL came on, But it went off after about 12 hours. So my question is the CEL does not stay on till the code is cleared? Does it turn itself off due to time or mileage.

It could be a intermittent code which is still stored even if the CEL disappeared. Get the codes read to give you a idea why.

Abad ignition coil will do that sometimes. Show a fault and then dissapear. Like said previously have the code read and see if there is a stored one....

It will be stored in the computer
Sometimes a gas cap code will go off after the cap has been re-secured
(not always but I have seen this happen).
Also a quick misfire for whatever reason can cause a code but will go away if it was a quick misfire and for whatever reason the car is now running nominally again

(Stored code has to be read by Volvo, a small scanner will not show it)

Not if it's not showing, then it would be stored in the system
Only VIDA can read a STORED code
