Rear wiper issue.

Hello, newbie here. Excited to join the fray, so to speak.

Just purchased an '01 and it came with one issue (didn't know about it when I test drove it) so far...

The rear-window wiper does not work. When the switch is on intermittent, I get the warning light on the dash and the message "rear gate open." the lights and message match the intermittent relay on/off. When the switch is in "on" the light and message stay on, which makes sense, I suppose.

I'll start with fuses, of course.

Anyone else had this occurence?

Check the wiring where it passes through the flexible boots, near the gate hinges, for damage.

6 broken wires in there.

soldered and shrink-tubed and tucked back together.

All is well in the tailgate now.

Good on you for getting things sorted out. There is a huge amount of expertise on this forum. Chances are, if you have something going wrong with your XC70, a forum member has already experienced the same thing and figured out what the problem is and how to fix it.
