    Unhappy Accident Report

I was rear ended today on the way home from work. Everyone involved is OK thankfully.

A VW Golf rear-ended a stopped or stopping Toyota Corolla at 60km/h which was then pushed into the back of my XC70.

The VW hit hard enough that their airbags deployed.

The Toyota hit and then went under my back bumper. Destroyed it's front end, the VW took care of the back end.

Luckily missed my hatch and taillights completely. Hopefully no frame damage.

Both the VW and the Toyota are write-offs.

Will find out the repair costs for mine tomorrow.

Sorry for not getting pictures of the damage to the other two cars. lol

Glad to hear everyone is ok. That doesn't look too bad.

Glad you and everyone came through unscathed. Please keep us updated. It's disheartening to be in an accident that was not your fault.

I was in a similar accident with my 01 back in 2002
I was in the middle (luckily I did not hit the person in front of me)
He jammed his brakes on for nothing.
    I stopped
Old (92) Taurus behind me couldn't
Volvo brakes vs. Ford brakes, the old couple didn't have a chance
Blew the rear bumper right off.
A new bumper and supports and about 15 minutes of very light rear underside pan repair and I was good to go again

That is what I am hoping for. What is giving me a slight bit of concern is that the rear floor hatch is tighter to the inner door sill then it was before and that the rear most tabs for the interior side panels were popped out. Suggesting that there was significant flex/movement through the back interior / frame of the car. Hopefully the frame flexed and then returned to normal and was not bent or otherwise damaged and it is just cosmetic.

Glad you are OK.... and even more glad this was not one of those, "Volvo saved my life" stories....

    Cheers

Insurance adjuster called today. Officially not at fault, so 100% covered with no deductible. Direct bill to insurance company by collision repair center. Car rental if needed of the same class as the XC70. No out of pocket expense for me.

The authorized collision repair center is also a Volvo dealership, bonus. Should have the bumper parts in by mid next week and the car at 100% by that Friday.

Don't have the cost yet, but will ask once they get all the parts in.

Ok, so the dealer/body shop finally got all the parts in, car is back to good as new.

$1600 CDN parts/labor/tax all covered directly by insurance.
