you can't see the collar. Where the angle gear bolts to the transmission the Collar connects the output shaft of the transmission to the shaft of the bevel gear. Both are splined. It is basically a splined coupler. Any leak would be unrelated.'

The collar itself is about $100. I saw in a post somewhere on here that the labor to remove and reinstall is around 4hrs but I can't be sure.

Not sure how handy you are but it is not a tough job to take out, just requires some patience...

Ah, so the collar is on the input side of the angle gear. Looks like it is a good thing to line one up before tearing it down. Thanks for the info.

    J.H. Christ!
Get the codes read first and have the pressure sensor checked.
That's the FIRST thing to do (and the easiest).
If it's the sensor, 1/2 hour and you're done

No, they are in the Haldex unit at the rear.

I think JRL missed your post where the prop shaft is NOT turning.

Unless I am missing something, there is an issue between the transmission and prop-shaft, aka with the angle gear. You will need to pull it to inspect the splines.

I need to research this more, that is certain. I assumed that the front gear box is mated to the transaxle with the splined coupler/ collar and that the module or other electrics are in the rear. So the prop shaft be turning when the front axles are turning at all times if this is correct. I don't have a good relationship with the local dealer and started doing my own service because of it.

Yes, the prop shaft should always be turning.

I'm not sure where you are in WA, but IPD is in Portland, OR, worst case.

I checked the IPD site, but I don't see the part listed. I suppose the part is a Volvo only part. Does their shop do this or just their part installs?

Yes, it is a Volvo only part.

IPD can probably order it for you. There is also Volvo of Dallas who tends to have good prices on genuine Volvo parts.

I pointed out IPD as an option if you didn't find a good local indi mechanic, or another dealer to go to, if you didn't want to do the work yourself.

See the photos in the link below. You can see the collar reinstalled on the vehicle WITHOUT the bevel gear and just the axle.....I am running without the bevel gear in just FWD...
