    Default Annual maintenance/repair costs

I think this will be useful info, given that I find many of the members here are very knowledgable about their vehicles and have (based on my experience on other lists) excellent DIY skills.

    Cheers to all.

Postscript: Apologies for the dumb typo in the next-to-last option... you can't edit poll options once the poll has begun, so I can't fix it. DOH....

I do nearly all of the work on the car myself...

I don't think I'm going to fiddle with the shocks, springs and such...guess I'm a bit shy around springs since I had a friend nearly killed with them.

I do believe if these cars are really driven- rather than just commuting, they'll last much longer.

As an aside, I figure about $1000 a year maintenance (excluding, stuff like oil, filters, pads and other consumables) but I consider than a minuscule amount compared with other trucks and SUV's for the mileage I put on them.

I do all the work myself, and I suppose that it amounts to approx 500 euro per year in parts since 2006. Most of the work is essential but has been nice to have accessories

It's usually just filters and oil in a year for me. But I just bought $1000 worth of suspension parts, that would have been $2000 from my local dealer. Yes, they are genuine Volvo. So my vote isn't really representative.

I do most work myself, and use an independent for the rest of the work that I don't feel comfortable doing, can't do, is too much of a pain or needs special tools that I don't have.

I have paid for my tools with the front end suspension job that I just did. Also I can get genuine Volvo parts for about 75% of what the independent can get them, and like 200%+ less then the dealer, lol.

Haven't owned it long enough even to do an oil change. I did ALL the work on my Saab (biggest job I had to do was head gasket) as there is no local service. But we have a reportedly-excellent Volvo shop in town - car is going Tuesday for a checkout as I have two weeks of warranty left and want to know if anythin' is needin fixin.

The last year has seen big expenditure with the local indy. If I keep it, I'll switch to mostly DIY - with the help of this forum, VADIS and cheap parts from the US.

Woo hoo! This is much harder work than one would imagine.

Apparently we are a shy group, when it comes to polls (I should have figured this from the results for the poll on owner satisfaction).

Thanks to all who have participated and/or commented.

    Cheers
