Instrument Cluster (DIM) on the Fritz

Any dim from 01 to 04 will work and off you would like a bit of a change I would recommend getting the 04 with the aluminum trim rings that go around the dials and better backlighting.
Be sure to have the mileage adjusted otherwise it's plug and play.

According to what I have read and my own experience, the DIM will end up reflecting the higher mileage of either the used DIM or the mileage stored in the CEM. There is no where in VIDA that allows the mileage to be "adjusted". Perhaps there is another tool that provides for alteration, but I have not seen any reference to it in anything coming from the factory that I have had access to. If there is I sure would like to see it so I could get back that 84K kms I lost when I changed mine out.

My Indy mech was able to adjust the mileage on my new 04 dim. Next time I go in ill ask how they did it.

I just got the DIM,BUT IT HAS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER(69294-600T) my DIM number is 69294-660T.will the dealer reprogram this and if so about how much will it cost?Is there any other way to get 69294-600T to work in my car?

I'm guessing it won't, but just plug it in and see. They either work or they don't, the whole thing with a dealer being able to re-program with VIDA involves the software reload (PN 9438293) which I would assume is matched up to the part number. I can't find anything specific in VIDA one way or another. There is also a DIM upgrade (PN 30677020) but again, I don't think either of these deals with basic functionality. As I say, plug it in and give it a go. Takes about 2 minutes to find out.

I put a DIM from a salvaged ' 04 S60 R in my '04 XC. Aside from simply rewiring the top LEDs to the purple wire, it was plug and play. The mileage is off by 15,000 miles (less). I haven't attempted to have it re-callibrated, and from what I hear, you can't, unless it's at least the same model/year (I don't know about part number). I'll probably drive it until it dies, or at least until nobody cares what the odometer says. Hooking up any sort of OBD (or dice) unit shows the correct mileage. Seeing 15,000 less miles on the clock certainly doesn't bother me.

So on yours the CEM still shows correct mileage while the DIM is less? Damn! My used DIM "updated" the CEM to the higher mileage so that both read the same. Maybe the newer years' software handled it different than the '01-'02 years. With where my car is mileage-wise, doesn't really make any difference anyway, I guess.

Yep. Just had my annual emissions test today. The printout showed the "real" mileage. Reminded me how quickly my imminent suspension job is approaching.

Maybe the DIM only updates the CEM if the DIM's mileage is higher. I think I read something about this while researching the possible caveats. Of course, it could have been pure speculation. Oh jeeze, now I'm just spreading rumors.

My understanding of the process was that both the CEM and DIM would reflect the higher mileage. Kind of a "gotcha" for not going to the dealer and paying big bucks to replace a badly designed DIM. On mine, it did take a bit to update the CEM from the DIM's value. I'm guessing it was 250kms or so. I ought to plug my old one in and see what happens. The speedo and most everything else doesn't work on it, but I think the odo still comes up.

I have a 2011 S60 T6 and the audio output from the DIM (for all the various alarms/ alerts etc.) has gone.
All other functions & displays are ok.
Volvo service is asking for the DIM to be renewed, which needless to say costs a lot.
I hope that the problem could be the speaker or something that can be repaired.
Could anyone please give me a procedure for safe removal of the DIM in the S60 2011 MY. I have not done that before.

Had mine rebuilt by Xemodex in Canada. About $400 for my 2002 model year, but it varies by model year.

I've got no idea what shipping costs from India, but the removal is about 10 minutes. Installation even quicker. No programming required. The CEM holds all the data.
