    Why?
If it works, don't worry about it (for now).
    Awfully expensive preventive maintenance!

So... i think i'm in the same boat as you guys.

I have 0 fuel pressure at the rail when the engine is off. Just about immediately after shut down, the pressure sinks to 0. Upon priming when turning the ignition key to the 2 position, it shoots up to around 50-60 psi, then drops back down.

I'm thinkin this is a check valve issue. What do you guys think?

Where do i get one of these one way valves? Or, what size is it and where do i put it in the fuel system?
If i get one from JRL, does he include proper clamps or whatever to affix the valve to the line?

A proper fix would be to replace the fuel pump. Installing a check valve is a crap shot because I heard people have issues with overpressure after installation. Those fuel pumps tend to die after 130,000 - 150,000 miles.

I posted here before but forgot to post to tell that when I bought and installed a new OEM fuel pump, all my starting issues are gone. Now, it start very quickly no matter what.

This is what I use, and installed properly... they work just fine
Mount right behind the fuel filter, in fact now we now buy a new filter, cut the end off the rear and attach the check valve right to it.
    Works great.
$30 plus the cost of the filter and an hour of your time.
    New Fuel pump $1200!

You're right, the proper fix would be to replace the fuel pump, but all of that labor is practically worth the price of the car....

Any idea why the car only sometimes has this hard start issue? Is it possible that the check valve works some of the time?

IMO it means it's starting to fail but it's not totally shot (yet)
The last one I had had an intermittent hard start issue (HOT hard start)
Everything else checked out OK so in went the check valve and now it starts perfectly every time

    This WILL solve your problem
Hmm. My 2000 doesnt start on the first turn of the ignition, but on the second it fires right up.

The mechanic mentioned something about fuel pressure. Could this be it?

For best results buy a new fuel filter
Attach the check valve to the BACK SIDE of the new filter, just butt it up to the filter, (you need to trim the outlet line on the filter and make sure you have the arrows on the CV pointing in the right direction), cut line and install
