Default Cross bars for my 2009 XC70

    Hi all,

Looking to get some cross bars for my XC70.

Was looking at the volvo wing cross bars, but the load capacity seems low, i think 100lbs?

    so I'm looking at Thule.

RB47 Aero bars with the 450R footings

I'm looking hard at the Atlantis 1800XT as well to put on this thing.

Anybody know what the weight limit is for the car itself for the roof?

any feedback on this arrangement appreciated.

I can't find the official load capacity of those anywhere, do you know what it is?

I think Thule's square cross bar load capacity is 165 lbs.
I have the Thule square cross bars made for Volvo, and I'm sure they're about the same.

I just got a 2011 XC70 with the silver "wing" cross bars. I have some older Volvo-branded bike racks, with the U-shaped clamp for a square cross bar. Does anyone know what do I need to use the old racks on the new bars?

The only solution that comes to mind is Thule's Ride-On-Adapter.

Any chance of a picture. And will a bike rack or ski rack clamp to these rails or is an adaptor needed ?

    Cheers

I believe that both Thule and Yakima carry select rack accessories to fit most factory load bars. That being said, it's probably best to check with a retailer to confirm whether fitment will be an issue with the Volvo wing profile bars. The T-track system for those particular bars is not very convenient when it comes to installing accessories.

Have had the wing cross bars for the past two XC70s. There was a change between the 2006 and 2008 model year (width wise) - so I had to buy them new. But love them. Use them with the fork mounted bike racks when I need to carry two adult bikes. (All the standard Volvo parts.)
