Thumbs up Sensolution's iMIV iPod Integration – Front-end Installation Guide and Review

For anyone thinking about acquiring one of these gems, we've just completed a comprehensive write-up on the iMIV (iPod Multi Media Melbus Module).

    http://www.volvoxc.com/features/imiv-volvo-ipod/

Many thanks to Martin Siebert of Sensolutions for providing the test units. I'm hoping that Martin will be able to check in occasionally on this thread just in case our members may have any questions/concerns of a technical nature.

You can also go to the iMIV website to find out more about module packages.

My imiv classic just arrived. I'm installing it in a 2004 v70 XC with the dvd-rom nav package to run with my iphone 3gs.

Has anyone tried hooking up a 3rd party video composite cable to the iVA cable and been successful in getting video out on their nav display?

I realize this is contrary to the instructions on the imiv site, but really, after dropping $250 for the imiv classic, the last thing i want to do is spend another 50$ for the Apple branded cable if I can get away with a 3rd party component av cable which sell for much less.

    Question

Looks like a very nice product, and a great installation write-up. What about the USB and AUX ports, are they provided with the iMIV - classic?

I am looking at buying a 07' XC70, and having iPOD connectivity in the car is important for me. I did take it to a test-drive, but not sure whether it has an in-dash CD-changer, or not. Would iMIV work with it even if it does have a CD-changer?

How would I know whether it is MelBUS - prepped, or not?
    -Thanks,

    -Michael

No to USB but yes on the aux ports.

Not that it matters, but the XC70 will have either a single or the 6-disc changer depending on what HU the car is equipped with.
If your vehicle was melbus prepped, you should find an 8-pin melbus cable tucked inside the rear cargo compartment on the driver's side. It's usually wrapped in foam tape.

    Question

Had a chance to look at a car again tonight. Most probably will be picking it up tomorrow. Didn't find any cables in the rear cargo space. Would it be hiding under covers? The radio is HU-650, not sure whether the CD-changer is in there or not?
How can one find out whether the CD-changer is there?

Will iMIV work with the HU-650?

    Hi Michael,

If the cable is there, it should be behind the driver's side cargo panel where the fuse box is located. It's quite possible that the vehicle is not Melbus prepped. The HU-650 is equipped with a single disc player.

Feel free to check the radio table for HU comparisons:

Regardless, the iMIV Classic is compatible with the HU-650. Did you happen to read the iMIV manual on Sensolution’s website? I would also recommend perusing the website as there is plenty of great info there particularly in the FAQ section.

You can also check iPod, HU, and vehicle compatibility charts in the link below. Simply click on the requirements tab.

    Hope that helps.

Neither did mine. On some cars, it appears that the Melbus cable was pre-routed even though accessories such as RTI, sat radio, or TV were not installed. Easy enough to have your dealer check the VIN to verify whether or not a Melbus cable is installed, (Sat Prep Code 682)
