Pleased to hear you can now keep the weather outside your Volvo.

I know I didn't have the answer to your window issue, but your question to Art about swallows just sent me to Strouhal and back.

Oh, and TGFGC also defeated Mr Google. Does one need a visa to go there?

Did they have any indication as to what caused it in the module?

Perhaps gotten wet with the window down during a rainstorm sometime in the past, or did something in there become shorted out?

I'd be wanting that module to take it apart and figure it out.
I just hate it when something like that gets the better of me.

I'm very happy that you got it repaired!
Now I know to take it to the dealership if it happens to me.

The question about the swallow is in reference to an old Monty Python movie "In search of the Holy Grail." Only us old guys would truely understand and appreciate that kind of humour.

TGFGC - Thank God for good credit. For some strange reason, I didn't seem to have eight hundred and seventy eight dollars in spare change at the time. I was good for the 95 cents tho.

    Cheers

Ahhh, not even enough for a Timmies. And you can go back to going thru the drive-thru properly and everything.

Glad to hear you got your windows all sorted. Hope that never happens to my rig. Living here by the North Atlantic would prove to be a bit damp in the interior I would think.

No indication why it fried, only that they were unable to reset it. Could have been a moisture problem causing signals to go to the wrong spot on the circuit board. The Tech said he had only seen one other DDM failure like this in his 8 years as a Volvo Tech.

Most components these days are not repairable, only replacable. Like the power supply or hard drive in your PC. Once they fail, you simply chuck it and replace. Now I'm curious to know if the old DDM went in the dumpster or sent back somewhere for a retrofit.

Well Bill, short of living in Prince Rupert, I live in the wettest place in North America. Summers are nice (except for the month of Fogust.) Winters, aka "Storm Season" can bring some brutal winds and buckets of rain coming at you sideways. Having a garage to store vehicles is a bonus. Unfortunately, my garage is full of woodworking equipment (and my motorcycle). I couldn't get a car in there if I had to, not even a Smart Car.

    Cheers

Yeah, know about those sideways rains (funny, we have Fogune over here though). I'm about 500 yards off the Atlantic and we can get a wicked wind starting about this time of year and going thru about March. I've had the engine compartment get soaked just because the wind was driving the rain in the right direction. Once, that caused a tranny error when the connection between the selector switch and the harness got soaked. Maybe one of these days, I'll have a real garage or just start parking the car in the barn.

    Have fun,

Spring weather can be just as unpredictable out there. Took this pic on the first day of spring this year near the Ucluelet/Tofino Junction. Good to know that you made it back to Uki with all four windows in working order Jules.
