Default Tranny Flush - Dare I try again?

About four years ago when my 99 V70XC was new to me, I did a tranny flush (via the cooler lines). Car had ~96,000 miles.

I used whatever ATF is recommended for these boxes, can't recall, but NOT the Mobil ATF 3309. Is that a recommended choice? Car does seem to shift OK.

    Thanks,

With more than 50,000 miles since the last change I think most folks would recommend another. I believe your transmission is the AW50-42 and it would have come with Dexron ATF. However, Volvo in Tech-Net Notes Number 40-04 recommends a fluid meeting the JWS 3309 specification for the AW 50-42 as follows:

"This fluid is also recommended to address two complaints on the AW 50-42:
    •Harsh Lock-Up engagement/disengagement (SB 43-0029)
•Squeaking noise during low speed turns (TNN 43-11)"

Flushing it is more important than the fluid used.
This box will take just about any fluid Dexron 3 or comperable

    Default flush

I do the drain and flush. I use the mobil 1 with the new formula, gray bottle, then add a bottle of lube guard. Lube guard is recommended by volvo. It keeps foaming down and keeps the clutch packs from shuddering.
