Not a fan of K&N air filters on this car. Sorry.

Not only does the oil cause MAF issues (it fouls the MAF, particularly after a "clean and reoil") but I saw increased silicon in the oil when doing used oil analysis. Unless there is a fresh RTV seal in contact with the oil, silicon has only one possible source...

    Sand.

K&N lets extra sand and dust in your engine over a regular paper air filter.

I would go back to a Mahle or Mann filter. My silicon dropped to zero when I did.

i had my rear hatch door latch replaced, it was stuck in CLOSED / LOCKED position. i read a few forum threads and learned this is not all that uncommon. Earlier model years have a manual / key option for operating the rear door, but my 2008 does not, it operates only electrically. my problem was the latch mechanism not electrical. I read plenty of posts about how to jimmy it open from inside the back of the car (pry off the interior panel, stick a long screwdriver down there etc etc), but little info about how to repair it / fix it for real. The parts were 210 bucks and the labor was another 220.

In a typical week, I merely feed a new audiobook into the CD player...this week it's "The Aviators", chronicling the contributions of Eddie Rickenbacker, Charles Lindbergh, and Jimmy Doolittle to developing the US aviation industry.

I put in a new oil filler cap gasket. Still owe it a rear-differential oil change.

And give thanks, knowing that there are 150-200 fault diagnostic messages lurking deep in the bowels of my car, and the the console remains clear.

    Exclamation Just Started

About 6 months ago I got an 03 XC70 with a sad sound when started, little ass tires(215/55/16) on it, looked awful and with 250k i decided to get it cheap, and explore. I have ALWAYS wanted an AWD wagon with some good ground clearance, I was thinking Subaru or Volvo.. even considered an Suzuki SX4 because it was cheap!

Only having a little bit of money at the time I saved money till a week ago, I ended up going thru FCPEuro.com ipduse.com and amazon.com for parts trying to get the best prices. I took the entire front suspension apart and replaced everything including; front strut assemblies, inner and outer tie rod ends, ball joints, cv axles etc. i even got those ploy inserts for the frame. As far as the engine goes; mounts, pvc breather system, plugs, gaskets, etc. total i spent... including new tires(215\65\16) $1100 just on parts.
I just finished and got some new LEDs headlights and fog lights in the mail.
NOW.. I want more... Currently looking at [bolt pattern] 108mm(4.25) to 114.3mm(4.5) wheel adapters because of how readily available 114.3mm(4.5in) wheels are. im looking to get a set 15x8in steel wheels. My plan is that i can get a bigger more aggressive A/T(All Terrain)tire without actually going to big that I will need a lift. Any opinion on tire size would be helpful, as well as fixes for the damn front windows. they keep falling on me. Always popping out of the plastic sliders.
In the future even tho its a dream.. I would also like to cut a new moon roof for the back, so when I sleep in the back on camping trips etc i can stare at the stars. I was thinking about 3ft wide and maybe 4ft long plexiglass.. I dunno.

Cleaned the engine compartment yesterday for the first time in a long while. Also, earlier in the year, put on refinished OEM wheels and had paint-less dent repair specialist iron out a couple new parking lot dings. The old girl is still looking really good after these many years. Wife (also still looking good ) loves the XC and won't consider replacing. Miles are very low, and I've taken very good care of it, so no argument on my part. Soon will own longer than any previous vehicle, beating '99 Grand Cherokee we had for 15 years 3 months, and it is in much better shape corrosion wise than the Jeep was, i.e., none to speak of. Body and paint on this vehicle have been outstanding.

Note I left on the K&N sticker to see if Astro14 is paying attention.

    I went to the junkyard.

For my wife's 2007 S60 I got A-pillar trim pieces (windshield interior trim on sides). Her fabric-covered trim pieces were fraying badly, and I got the non-fabric version of this part. She loves this excellent repair.

For my 2004 XC70, I got the driver's sun visor with the 3-buttons for remote control (HomeLink feature). It only took 5 minutes to mount, and 5 minutes to program as a garage door opener. What a cool feature...not even sure it was offered back in 2004.
(I have an extra Homelink Visor if anyone wants it. See classified ads section.)

I replaced the temperature sensor by the evaporator. Quick job, about 10 minutes. Seems to have fixed the evaporator icing that was happening in our Virginia summers...

Homelink was offered in 2004, included with the Premium package. Glad you could find one (two!)
