    Default 2010 Subaru Outback

Has as much cargo room as the Volvo XC70! Main reason I bought the XC70 was the HUGE cargo area (and those super comfy seats, haha). Plus the 4cyl version gets 29mpg highway and the 6cyl 25mpg, that's pretty darn sweet considering the poor mpg of the 2010 XC70. I'll definitely be test driving one of those bad boys some time in the future.

I test drove one 2 days ago. Very nice vehicle. Not as nice inside an an xc70 but overall still a very nice setup.

    Cheers

When I bought my '04 new, I could not really justify the added cost over the Outback - but I got the XC anyway.

The Outback is a very nice package, and very popular where I live - I see 10 Outbacks for every XC70.

Price probably has something to do with that but consider this quote from SwedeSpeed who quoted this from the Subaruoutback.org Forum "I'm so bummed. I finally got to drive my Subie up to the mountains yesterday, to Squaw Valley... Unfortunately Cal Trans spreads volcanic cinder all over the road when its snowing so you can plan on a few paint chips and perhaps a windshield hit or two. I did not expect to have my rocker panels turn to crap in just one ski trip. They are blasted so bad they feel like 50 grit sand paper to the touch. Why did Subaru use such soft plastic for these parts? They should be made from polycarbonate, or perhaps stainless steel."

I have a 2001 Outback that just hit 200,000 km and had been planning to get a new one this year. However, the new front end treatment is so incredibly ugly, it's off the table. Test drove an XC70 in Calgary a few days ago and it's very high on the list of possibles - the substantial extra cost seems justified, though the fact that the nearest Volvo dealer is a 26-hour drive away (I'm in the Yukon Territory) is troubling.

LOL...yeah, you might wanna rethink volvo then.

As I understand it, it is not uncommon to be headin to the dealership for electrical/software gremlins with a volvo these days...26 hours?

    Hmmmmm

    Cheers

    I exaggerated - Mapquest says that it's only 22 hours - http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Whit...490372&2v=CITY

I agree. I found the last generation Outback to be very attractive, but this new one just seems very 'truckish' to me - very bulbous - where the older was seemed more car-like to me.
