1)front wheel drive without spinning the front wheels,slow start.
2,3,4)spinning the front wheels on ice haldex engages the back wheels,all wheel drive

During Christmas I drove from Greece to the French alps,Chamonix and back through Italy (3500 klms) with not even a problem.

2. Is your XC a manual transmission?

Intersesting is also this clip from a German TV program where they drive some AWD/4WD cars up a ski slope. Although I am not sure if they used the same (type of) tyres on all cars. The XC70 performs in the middle of the pack...
