Second the comment on checking the PCV system.
OP: the cross bars you are referring to are one part of a roof rack. Thule supplies Volvo with the Volvo branded one, but they have a broader family of products that will fit any front to back roof...
I currently use a "Noah" cover on my '05 Sienna, our third vehicle that does not get used much and lives outside on the driveway under a tree. The cover works great and keeps the crud off the car....
What about an XC60 T6 R Design? Checks all your boxes and may not be as boring as the one you drove? Suspension mods could help too. Audi SQ5 might be found at $35K, but it would have higher mileage....
18's are fine on a P2 XC70. I have 235/50/18 on ours and the rolling circumference is almost identical to stock so no speedo issues. Will try to post an old image sometime.
How are your tires? In my exoerience, treadwear and tread pattern make a huge difference.
If owner#1 never dealt with the PCV, what makes you think he/she dealt with anything else such as regular tranny fluid changes. Spending almost the same money on #1 to bring it back to ok vs #2 that...
You might want to cut your losses and buy a CR-V or similar.
Take a look at the Kenu Airframe. We have one in every car. Clever little gadget and $25 on Amazon.
Do you know if the timing belt or head gaskets have been changed?
How old is the battery? Perhaps you just need a new one?
So................did it take 5 hrs?
Don't forget to check for a clogged breather box/PCV.

All '07 models have integrated turn signals on the side mirror housing.
If you are willing to drive an hour north, try these guys:

They are a fair independent shop owned by a former Volvo mechanic. Also, they are located...
Find a Volvo independent mechanic in your area. Perhaps they have a simpler way than replacing the whole assembly, as dealers love to do.
I also run DWS' on my '05 XC70. I went with a plus sized wheel and use the 235/50/18 size. These are my summer tires for the vehicle, which is a mostly street vehicle during the warm weather. The...
Awesome! Good luck in your quest to 400K, that's a lot of daily miles. How is the car running? What have you had to repair/replace?
235/60/16 does not come close to rubbing when mounted on the stock rim for my '05 xc70. As mentioned before, going from 215/65/16 to 235/60/16 does nothing for the sidewall height. If the rolling...
I'd recommend checking the wiring. The drivers might be fine.
I know everyone has different needs, budgets, priorities etc., but since you asked.......................If you are planning to replace all 4 anyway in six months, I'd just do it now and have better...
Sorry to hear your troubles, take your experience as a life lesson. We've all had Sh!+b*xes before and still tell the stories. Cut your losses and buy something Japanese at this time in your life....
My experience with the WRG2's (235/60/16) on the OEM rims from my '05 XC70 were mixed. At the start the tire was great and continued to be a solid performer for winter traction. Much better than a...
