Agree with above, the shifter ‘claw’ mechanism breaks and then won’t stay in place, happened to me. The part is cheap $20 and fairly easy to replace if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.

On my 850 it definitely firmed things up. Of course I did a brake fluid flush at the same time so that helped improve the whole system. My Volvo tech swears by stainless lines and I agree.
