UPDATE: Problem fixed!! It was the idler pulley for the timing belt. It was pretty stiff and was causing all of the noise. I did the full timing kit with the tensioner and water pump. Should be good...

I have 154k and mine uses 1 qt/1500 miles. Yours is definitely "normal." Just keep it topped off and you shouldn't have any problems.
