Don't waste your time and money on checking brakes and fluids etc. It's either your VC or your Bevel Gear. Get ready to shell out some serious $$$ if you plan to keep it.
I don't buy that for a second.
ALL of the independent Volvo shops I dealt with when mine broke down said EXACTLY the opposite.
Your gut feeling is right-on-the-money, pun intended. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY from these maintenance nightmares. The look neat, but seem to have been engineered by the three stooges. They will cost you...
Sure have. It's your VC/Bevel Gear. I sure wish it wasn't, but it most likely is. I held out hope for the possiblility of a brake component, then a driveshaft bearing. These cars are neat looking,...
The only options I see are:
*Yes, I can't wait to buy a newer one!
*Sure, why not?
*Maybe, but not sure
*No, I am done with AWD cars!
*No, I love the AWD but way to costly to...
Got word today from my indy. Bevel Gear is shot.
Volvo Rebuilt: $1883 part + $380 labor = [cussing]
Used w/56K: $1300 + labor
Used w/95K: $1200 + labor
I'm looking to get out from under this...
I installed the part on the drive shaft last night.
This morning I re-installed the drive shaft. Then I drove it a couple of laps around the block- no noises.
At around 1:30PM I started out to...
The Volvo part description is: Universal Joint. The part#: 30651204. And it's made in Germany. It cost $260.74 after tax.
I'll be installing it tonight, and I'll report if this was the fix or not....

Any news to share on this??
This is EXACTLY how my problem started. See this thread: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10297
Sounds like you should by a pickup truck. Altering the height of these AWD's is asking for BIG TROUBLE. Not to mention it would just look silly.
I still cannot afford to buy the part. Sad, I know, but Mr. Murphy has reared his ugly head and won't leave me alone. I had saved the ~$250 last week and was about to purchase it when, BAM!! You need...
There's a great product out there for this.
http://www.deoxit.com/
I use it on all kinds of things from stereo/phono/RCA plugs to fan and light switches, electric motors (attic fan). A can has...
Since I purchased my 2000XC in November of last year, this has happened to me twice. The first time, the car would accept the fuel but only at an agonizingly slow rate. I pulled up to the next pump,...
Try using the search button. The terms "Transmission Fluid" might be a good place to start.[thumbup]
Last nite I was able to build a jig to hold the driveshaft while I spun it using a drill. I found that every couple dozen revolutions I would get a binding in the front CV of the shaft and it would...
This weekend gave me the time to get into the BG and this is what I found:
A) A full 0.7L of oil was present and consequently removed from the BG. The color was quite dark, but not quite like...
Sure of what? The Spinning of the BG or the condition of the bearing?
Perhaps we aren't talking about the same thing. I have the drive shaft off the car and the U-Joints as well as the center...
Bill, I hate to be negative too, but perhaps you didn't read what I wrote, so I'll point out that:
A) I confirmed it is not the parking brake.
B) The noise is gone with the drive shaft removed,...
First off, thanks to all who have replied to this thread, I really appreciate the help.
Last night I removed the drive shaft (took me over an hour b/c some tough 6mm allen bolt placements &...
Well, after poking around in the brake assys, it is certainly not the E-brake.
I'm set to remove the drive shaft starting tonite.
If anyone has any advice as to tools or technique (e.g. order...
****Update****
I drove about 3/10ths of a mile and heard a similar sound and immediately called a flatbed tow. What apain in the ass. Murphy strikes again. I'm about to move to a new apt. so the...
To start, I drive a 2000 V70XC with 135K.
Alright. So about a week ago I noted a single, slight thud or clunk sound that ONLY happened when reversing (out of my driveway usually) and only after...
