Crap - you are right! What I was thinking of was the read-out of current consumption by each of the solenoid... I remember there being something to monitor, but it's much less useful than actual...
Not mechanical but... you do have a DiCE setup then it sounds like? Does it have details of any logged errors?
Furthermore you should be able to go into the TCM and monitor line pressures, etc....
FWIW: There is an overpressure 'valve' in the power steering cap. This seems to fail over time, and increases the pressure in the system. This often causes leaks over the cap/seam.
The easiest...
VIDA DiCE is the system Volvo dealers use. If VIDA DiCE cannot read the information, it's (effectively) inaccessible to you. So yes it will do ABS.
As a warning to anyone with Apple products: from what I recall apple only allowed certain Bluetooth modules to pair with some of their products. Be sure to check that out, as basically all the...
My only note/advice would be to have this inspection done at a indy with specific volvo tools (VIDA/DiCE), or if you are unsure how well-suited they are just take it to a Volvo dealer. There is a...
FYI had a quick look in the car today - when the signal lights on the dashboard are on the relay does click, my original post was incorrect. It's when the car is off + hazards on the dashboard lights...
So it sounds like you've verified that with the turn signal on (NOT the hazard lights), the external lights are all working?
Do you have a VIDA setup to check for any error codes, or just using a...
I haven't used that, but I just recently installed an UltraGauge EM V1.2, which is a smaller/cheaper solution, that is also more limited (only does display, no tuning). I imagine the basic idea...
It is 100% possible to do this in-place, but note that Antherzoll's post was also done without removing the alternator! The video was just for reference. I posted my similar write-up here:...
BTW one other note: the battery in the siren module tends to leak over time. This can corrode the circuit board and cause higher current draw - as a simple test you might ensure the siren still works...
One thing to check out - when you are locking the car, does the alarm always activate? i.e. you see all lights flash? I believe the car maintains a slightly higher drain until everything is detected...
The Volvo DIM / Instrument panel seems to have a moderately high failure rate at later ages. Most of the time this takes the form of displays going out on it or the entire panel going black.

From the product page:
Thus the 'volvo-specific' aspect means for older cars. There would be no advantage to any generic reader for newer cars, and as mentioned far less useful than DiCE at a...
I've got one too and am even lazier - I cut a hole in the plastic shield such that I can slip a hose on the valve and flip the level, and also cut a hole around the filter such I don't even need to...
As another note - I've had good luck with IPDUSA too, I see they have a USPS option now. Sometimes it's cheaper/faster to pay for next-day overnight shipping than it is to pay the local price. I did...
Any luck out of interest? Curious if it applied to more than one car that I got lucky on ;-)
Hi Sharkmonkey,
Your error is similar to mine, and (should) make resoldering location easy to pinpoint. The LCD modules all share a common bus. The data for the LCDs is written by the Motorola CPU...
The VIDA instructions just say to 'disarm alarm' before removing, which I assumed meant to have car unlocked. When I did this I just left car unlocked & swapped module w/o even pulling fuse, although...
I'm not sure what type of bolt extractor set you got already, but I know they do sell ones which are basically sockets with spiral teeth. You hammer them down onto the rounded bolt, and it would...
VirtualBox does run on MacBook instead of VMWare Player (also free). The catch is VirtualBox cannot open VMWare images - if you can convince someone who has VMWare to export the virtual machine as an...
As an easier solution - you can download a VMWare image (see another thread at http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?23252-VIDA-2012B-VMWare-Player-Image) which would allow you to run VIDA on...
I assume you can use a screwdriver or similar to close the latch with the tailgate still open (look at how the latch works). Now you can prod the wiring harness to try and get the tailgate open...
Yeah I forgot all about that thanks! I've had it for a while so it's just normal for me now. One of the reviews mentions one can trim the poly back a little to reduce this too, as part of the issue...
Assuming we are talking about what I think we are, you can get just a version of the bushing in polyurethane for some newer years too. IPDUSA is specifically what I'm talking about:...
