    Default Battery Life

I have 2001XC and original battry still in it. My thinking is that battery should be at the end of usefull life and perhaps I should replace them. Now question is, should I wait till it show sign of failure of go ahead and replace them soon, before winter arrives?
    Looking for suggestions.

    Thanks

I replaced my original equipment battery last June on my 2000 XC just prior to a long trip (650 mi) towing a 5x8 trailer. I probably could have made it but I didn't want to invite trouble, so I bought a new battery. (Think "piece of mind").

Look at it this way; the battery owes you nothing and you know it could fail at virtually any moment. I recommend replacing the battery at your convenience with the battery of your choice, rather than waiting for the need to replace the battery when it fails.

I'd vote for a fall replacement as the warmer months don't seem to be too demanding on a battery. When you purchase a replacement pay attention to the date tag -- get one as fresh as possible.

If you decide to replace the battery, you may opt for the biggest capacity battery that will fit,
since the car has many electric/electronic features, I think some more power is welcome,
(I had my car delivered with the battery of the diesel model, 92Ah) the added cost isn't very high.

You're way overdue. ABout 3 to 4 years is average.
It will fail almost instantly when it goes, be sure to use either an OEM or the PROPER larger battery for replacement

Well with all due respect to my distinguished colleagues above
I disagree. Any competent auto parts store or mechanic has a
battery tester - which tests not just voltage but recovery time
and other aspects of battery performance as well. Stop by
an auto parts store, ask politely, and (at least around here)
they'll test your battery - in the car - for free. It takes about
2 minutes. You'll then know the likely expected lifetime of
your battery - which in my opinion is a better basis for
deciding on replacement than just age.

I just replaced my original battery a month ago after signs of it not holding its charge. I would vote to change as soon as you see a deal, not many people want batteries during the summer months so get in there and buy it before the winter hike in prices, they know when to really kick you when you're down

.. for the info, I have decided that withthe next service will replace battery. My experience with battery is that they would last about 6 years max (good battery anyway).

Volvo batteries seem to last me about 4 years, plus or minus.
