    Default Some new owner questions

I am new XC70 owner and so far very happy. I've only become aware of transmission problems since visiting this forum and want to know if anyone can tell me what the warning signals are of impending transmission problems. I have a 2002 model with 70K kms on the clock which seems to be the danger time from what I've read.

Also I have a front fog light that's out and it seems that the whole bumper needs to be removed to change a simple bulb. Have I got this right ? What a hassle if that's the case !

Finally, when did the 2.5 engine get the small horesepower increase, was it from 2003 ?

    When it became a 2.5. (It was a 2.4 before, 2004 I think)
If the transmission starts shifting funny, you will know.
Fog loght is changed from the back (on a lift or a jacked up front end)

actually, the XC70 got the 2.5 when the AWD went to haldex......2003, I think (some late 2002's?)

I would flush and fill the tranny with new 3309 ATF now before the funny shifting (harsh down/up shifts, clunks, and "flares") starts. Make sure that you have the latest software upgrade available. Then enjoy!

The foglight is accessible under and behind the front bumber after removing an access panel. I am not a novice, but still screwed up the housing just trying to change the bulb - ended up having to replace the housing for a little over $200 - I am never going to try to change another bulb on that car!

It was 2003. I know cuz I got one (in Feb 2003). Badge on the rear says "XC70". Engine size is 2.5 liter and it has a Haldex AWD system.

No worries, JRL. I think part of the confusion stems from the fact that for whatever reason Volvo decided to make the 2003 model year a very short model year, compared to other model years. I ordered my '03 in late Nov '02 and took delivery in Feb '03 and it seems in Apr '03 they introduced the '04s!
    Cheers, Gary
