gear popped out of drive ...

This happended to my wife when she drove back home from work yesterday.
Actually this happened once before, but it didn't alert me then. Basically,
when the car came to a stop at a traffic light, the gear and the gear selector
popped out of drive into neutral. I don't know if it was the selector moved,
causing the gear to shift, or the other way around. My wife is certain that
she didn't touch the gear selector. I'm bringing the car to the dealer this
Friday. I'm not sure what they can do since the problem doesn't reproduce. I
hate to think the transmission mabye bad. Any thoughts?

The electronics of the car put it into neutral without the shifter being moved.

Are you saying that the lever physically moved from one gear to another?

Perhaps the stops need adjusting. I suspect the dealer will start by removing the center console to look see.
