Question Removing the driver door control module - Help please!

Something weird happened to Mrs. R (as usual ): the mirror control botton simply splitted in two pieces... So I removed the door panel to get to the module (thanks Art! ).

But now I'm stuck. How do I remove the control module? It seems to be in two parts, button cover (grey part) and control (black). The cover is attached to the door panel by four metal clips. Two of them are easily accessible, but forget the other ones, on the panel side.

    Any help would be appreciated!

PS: I've looked at the HowTO section, but it doesn't seem to apply to this model...

Don't know if this will help but you could give it a try. Be aware though that you may have to have a software update afterwards - although that might only be for the window operation and the switch may not be software addressable - but my guess is that it is, and you will...

Meant to say that if the part, in the pdf, about pulling up the edge of the door module etc. doesn't apply to your car then I'd guess you need a (probably very expensive) Volvo 'special tool'. Whatever, I think you may still need a s/w update unfortunately.

Thanks anyway John! I reassembled the thing temporarely because my wife needed the car. I plugged it back on and everything work perfectly. I think the software update is required only if you put a new module on.

Still stuck with the splitted button though...

I believe that those were the same PDF instructions that Willy submitted to the resources how-to-section. New software is required only when a replacement module is installed.

The diagrams look more akin to those of earlier model years but perhaps the removal procedure is the same.

It appears, however, that forum member wvaneyk figured out a way to remove his door module as explained in this thread.

A split mirror control knob may not be as weird as it would seem, I am sure I have
seen it before (not sure if it was on this forum though).
I remember that the owner glued the pieces back together, and with success!

Actually, it doesn't seem to be broken, just split at the joint. The problem is that it's (almost) impossible to hold the two parts together because I can't have any grip on them and they are tightly fit wth the inner control button. It may be because I'm not much of a brain surgeon!

Thumbs up Problem solved and knob glued !!!

There is always a simple solution... But by fear of breaking something (exepensive ), I'm always a little shy with these DIY things...

Anyway, the instructions in the PDF file of the HowTo section are correct. Not very clear, but correct! Check other pictures and comments in the VolvoXC.com Photo Galleries.

    Thanks to all!

Kudos Raynald! Actual photo documentation almost always eliminates the doubt or confusion when undertaking these types of procedures.

Mind if I compile your pics in a PDF for Taylor as a submission to the resources section? Naturally, you would be given full credit for the DIY.
