I think it's time to put the metal screens behind the bumper.

Many thanks Pennhaven - I'll probably try to fabricate something myself following the tips given.

That's the condenser which you rarely replace. Put a stone guard like what I did to mine using window nets.

There is a tradeoff you run into if you put a screen in front of the radiator -- it will prevent stone gouges but also reduces airflow. The radiator works best with what's called laminar airflow (smooth). When you place a screen in the grille, it disrupts smooth airflow, introducing eddies (turbulent airflow).

You can assess the job the radiator is doing on a hot day by plugging in an OBD-II scanner. The engine coolant temp. should be in the 88-90C range. If it's staying above 90C, then you're running hotter than the oil lube system was designed for. This leads to progressive engine wear / shortened life.

That explains it. My buddy got this new XC70 project and we'll work on it after we finished installing the suspension from 4Wheelonline onto the Silverado project. The XC70 got idling and overheating issues. We'll fully inspect the rad for leaks.

Oh man, this is some thread necrophilia at it's finest. 14+ years.

Many forums lock posts on 6 mo. old + threads, or have mods approve such. Wise.
