    Default Driver's Side Mirror

Managed to knock my driver's side mirror against a small tree. Now I need a replacement. Any idea what the Canadian dealer price is?

Are there any other sources I should look at.

    Many thanks.

    Dave,

Welcome to the club; there's at least 6 of us who have replaced a mirror housing, usually due to the garage (but one snowplow too.)

I got part number 30634936, Rear View Mirror, from Borton for US$248.55, list US$321.20. I also ordered the Euro wide-angle mirror glass, 8650148-3 for US$49.06.

I did not have to have any memory reprogrammed at the dealer, just reset my #2 settings (the boss uses #1).

The door panel takes some finesse after removing the clips around the edge and the two screws under the door handle cover.

Search "mirror" and you'll find several threads with more information.

How easy would it be to replace just the regular U.S. glass mirror with the European wide-angle mirror? Does the whole mirror assembly need to be removed?

It seems pretty easy - I was lusting after this upgrade a few months back when I first caught wind of it, and recall finding a scan of the instructions that come with it - maybe on the Borton's website.

I never got it, but I recall it said that you need to aim the mirror toward the car, as far as it could go, and that exposes the left edge (on the driver's side), allowing the mirror to be pulled out of it's mount and the new one to be pushed in.

    Default It gets worse

Mirror replacement plus installations was over $1,000 Canadian!

I ordered the euro style mirror glass from my dealer (same part number as referenced for Borton) and when it came it was a mirror for a V70 and would not fit. Can anyone verify this part number: 8650148

Dealer will replace if I can provide proof there is a problem with part.

    Thanks

My VADIS lists 8650148 as Mirror glass wide angle drivers side exc usa cdn aus sa

It lists 8650152 under the same description for usa cdn sa aus

But it then lists 8650152 as Mirror glass flat drivers side

So I would guess that 148 is the correct number for the wide angle mirror.

btw, here's the instructions for replacing the mirror glass:

    Removing the mirror glass
Fold the mirror glass forwards and inwards as illustrated.
[illustration shows the mirror angled full to the right -- looking at as much of the back of the car as possible]
Grasp and pull the mirror glass lengthways until it releases.
    Work the glass out.
Disconnect the terminal pins from the mirror glass.

FYI, I just got this rear view mirror from Borton and put it on today and it fits perfectly. Part number on box is 8650148.

Remember, there are 2 version of the mirror, the default XC70 style, and the painted V70 style, min have a V70 mirror, and is really much more silent in the wind, less wind noice.
    Got a 03 XC70 D5 :-)))

Valid point. This part number is strictly for the glass for the larger XC70 mirror and is not the full mirror assembly.
