Default Windshield Cowl Foam - How/Where to Install?

2004 XC70. Had windshield replaced and the two cowl end caps and sealing foam disintegrated when windshield tech. removed. Had some water dripping on passenger side onto cabin floor before replacement. Tried recommended solutions including flushing roof window front drains.

Have ordered two new end caps (Volvo calls then Roof Drip Moldings) and a piece of foam called also called Roof Drip Molding. The old foam was about a 3/4? cubic piece. The end caps fit around either end of the windshield cowl.

There appeared to more sealing foam that came off in that area.

Can anyone tell me how to install new foam piece and other foam that I might need? Might the disintegrated old foam have been the source of the leak? Do the end pieces channel water?

I didn?t know the drip rails were still available! I was told they were ?NLA? years ago.

You?ll want new clips for them - there are two kinds, and the parts folks should be able to tell you how many. It?s 3/side, I think.

I think water runs down the drip rails, I wouldn?t worry too much about the foam.

Water won?t come in the cabin via the windshield if the urethane glue was applied correctly - that is, all the way around.

But sunroof drains frequently clog. Check them. There are four. One runs down each ?A? pillar and one runs down each C pillar, behind the rear seat. Open the sunroof all the way, remove any debris. Compressed air at low pressure to clean them out - or run a piece of nylon string trimmer line down the drain hose. Don?t apply a ton of pressure, or you?ll blow the line off the clips in the sunroof pan.
