Hey everyone,
completely stumped by this one, and I've spent about two weeks looking at answers.
In short:
Scraping noise, right wheel vicinity, when in gear, engine cold only, transmission temperature irrelevant.

My XC70 started making a scraping sound near the right wheel when driving and in gear, accelerating, only while the engine is cold, but transmission temperature doesn't matter, as I did the last test I could do, which was to keep it running while parked for about 1 hour, and lo and behold, no scraping when driving off.
The sound is also not constant or rhythmic, but seems to vary with the amount of torque. I don't mean engine RPM,
I really mean torque, as in, it's more pronounced in low gear driving off than when it switches to 3rd or 4th gear, becoming more sporadic.
The sound is also only present when in gear. I've reproduced the sound driving at low speeds at a parking lot nearby, and shifting into Neutral makes it disappear, OR after it's warmed up it goes away.
Previously checked dust shield, brake pads, disc, CV boot, suspension, and steering elements near the wheel, engine oil level, but this new test really confused me. I had considered the wheel bearing and thought that the grease warming up could make it go away, but after warming up the engine only, I don't know what to think.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you!
